About

Let nature feed my spirit, nurture my soul and calm my mind
Let nature hold me tight and soothe me
Let nature lift me up to the tallest trees
Let nature keep me safe, keep me wild and keep me free.

THUY LUU, 2024

Hello there. I’m Thuy, the heart and soul behind On Stillness.

I’ve always moved through the world as a quiet wanderer. For a long time, I looked for a sense of sanctuary in a world that felt too loud, eventually finding a way back to myself through Vipassana and mindfulness. These practices gave me a clarity, a kind of “homecoming” that I now carry into every conversation and every piece of work I do.

Translating Stillness into Service

For me, stillness is not the absence of action, but the presence of intention. This realization led me to the field of Social Work, where I bridge the gap between internal mindfulness and community empowerment. My background in Law and my Master of Social Work provide the professional framework for my mission: creating spaces where loving-kindness and systemic support meet.

I am the founder of heal.thee – a community project (healthee.com.vn) dedicated to holistic community health. I believe that when we work from a place of stillness, we create a ripple effect of genuine, lasting impact.

Impact & Initiatives

The professional expressions of my practice.

  • Evidence-Based Mindfulness: As a Master of Social Work, I am committed to the research and integration of clinical mindfulness frameworks into community development, ensuring programs are both sustainable and impactful (visit Research & Reflections)
  • Community Leadership: As the founder of a community initiative, I lead the development of holistic health resources and capacity-building tools to empower the Vietnamese community (visit heal.thee).
  • Facilitation & Connection: I facilitate school-based programs in the Tweed Valley and host community sharing circles. Whether in a classroom or a circle, I focus on building collective support and mindful presence.
  • The Mindfulness Circle Project: My heart is in creating spaces for people to practice being present. I facilitate these circles to inspire deeper connections both with oneself and with the community (visit The Mindfulness Circle Project).
  • Future Vision – YW-CBS: I am currently developing the framework for the Youth Wellbeing Capacity Building System, a project aimed at designing mindful, systemic pathways for youth resilience.

A Little More About Me

My professional practice is rooted in Intentional Living. When I am not working on systemic change, you will find me:

  • Storytelling: Collecting the “unseen” stories of strangers and weaving them into a larger narrative of human connection. I believe stories are the threads that bind us.
  • Nature: Immersed in green forests – hiking, camping or gardening. These are the places where I recharge my capacity to serve.
  • Intentional Living: For the past 10 years, I’ve explored self-sustainability and low-waste living as a way to live in harmony with my values.
  • Reflective Practice: I believe in the power of slowing down to “dance with life.” I maintain a personal blog where I share poetry, stories of my wanderings and reflections on navigating the seasons of life with mindfulness (link to my blog | Substack)

I believe every soul’s journey is unique and I am here to honour that uniqueness through professional advocacy and mindful presence.

I am always open to discussing collaborative projects, research partnerships or holistic service design that bridges the gap between social work and mindful wellbeing. Let’s connect.
