About

Let nature feed my spirit, nurture my soul and calm my mind
Let nature hold me tight and soothe me
Let nature lift me up to the tallest trees
Let nature keep me safe, keep me wild and keep me free.

THUY LUU, 2024

Hello there. I’m Thuy, the heart and soul behind On Stillness. My life has been a winding path of self-discovery, leading me to a truth: my purpose is to serve, to love, and to hold space for others.

As a child, I was a quiet wanderer, always searching for meaning in the vastness of existence. I would spend hours beneath the night sky, lost in the dance of stars, feeling both impossibly small and deeply connected to something greater. I was a dreamer, an introvert, a risk-taker who found courage and comfort in solitude. The world often felt too loud, but the stillness was and is always my sanctuary.

From a young age, I always pondered over questions like: Who am I? Why am I here? Does my existence ripple beyond this moment? What lies beyond the veil of death? At times, these questions weighed heavily. I wrestled with them, believing they needed answers. But over time, I realized they were never meant to be solved, they were whispers, guiding me back to wonder, reminding me of the mysteries that make life infinitely beautiful.

Those whispers led me to the path of self-exploration. A decade ago, I stumbled upon meditation and yoga, first through books and teachings, then through practice. What began as curiosity became a way of being. I quickly became fascinated with yoga philosophy, which soon opened the door to breathwork and Ayurveda. After years of self-practice, I began attending meditation classes in Hanoi, Vietnam, and joined the Self-Realization Fellowship founded by Paramahansa Yogananda. His book, Autobiography of a Yogi, remains one of my greatest inspirations.

Along the way, I explored energy healing, becoming a Reiki Master and diving into the world of crystals, chakras, and emotional release techniques. I was a seeker, yet my heart often felt adrift. The more I explored, the more I questioned: Am I truly on my path? Or am I simply lost in the forest of possibilities?

It wasn’t until I experienced my first Vipassana course that everything fell into place. For the first time, the questions quieted, not because they were answered, but because I no longer needed answers. Vipassana, rooted in the Buddha’s teachings, showed me a way to simply be – to see the nature of reality as it is. Its heartbeat is mindfulness, and through it, I found clarity, peace, and a profound sense of homecoming.

I’ve since come to understand that every path has its own light, and none is more or less valid than another. But Mindfulness is where my heart resides, at least for now. It reminds me to honor the uniqueness of each soul’s journey, to embrace both the known and the unknown with equal grace.

Through this journey, I’ve discovered that my deepest fulfillment comes from serving others. This realization led me to pursue a Master of Social Work degree and create The Mindfulness Circle Project, a space where mindfulness, loving-kindness, and dana (the Buddhist practice of selfless giving) can flourish. Here, I am reminded that stillness is not the absence of action but the presence of intention, of love, of connection.

Life continues to unfold like a poem… its lines unwritten, its rhythm uncertain, yet every verse filled with beauty. I walk this path with an open heart, grateful for the stillness that guides me and the opportunities to share its quiet power with others.

  • In my free time, you’ll often find me immersed in activities that feed my soul – reading, writing, gardening, hiking, camping, experimenting with DIY projects, film photography, crafting with recycled materials, or simply getting lost in green forests. You can catch glimpses of my reflections and creative musings in my journal (read it here).
  • My journey toward self-sustainability began seven years ago when I embraced an intentional, simple way of living and started sharing my experiences of zero-waste and simple living on my old personal blog. It’s a lifestyle that inspires me to live in harmony with nature while being mindful of the impact I leave behind.
  • And I absolutely love stories—the ones we live, the ones we share, and the ones that connect us all. I still dream of becoming a storyteller one day. In university, I even started a project collecting stories from strangers I met on the street (yes, it was nerve-wracking but incredibly rewarding!).
